[Review] Angelfall by Susan Ee

GoodReads Description

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

I have been meaning to review this one for a while. Heck, I’ve been meaning to review a ton of books lately. I was ready to break out into the New Year being a great blogger. #Failalready
I read this one in the beginning of December. We accidentally paid for a full year of Amazon prime and it was on there to borrow, so I figured why not. My friend Jen over at the Starry Eyed Revue  highly recommended it. So glad she did, because even though she said it was amazing, this shit still blew me away.
I don’t do angels. Not into angel stuff at all, but every angel book she recommends to me I devour. I really enjoyed this one. So much that I purchased the paper back for myself and my little brother. ( Psssst.. he loved it too! ).
This opens up in a pretty harsh world. Its very action packed from the very beginning. I was gripped, and terrified. These aren’t frilly angels; no… they will scare your F’n pants off. Side note though, Raffe doesn’t have to scare mine off, I will take them off willingly.
Penryn, she is strong. I don’t mean that in a physical way, I mean in a “the world is falling to shit around her but she’s managing” kind of way. Now this brings me to her mother. Holy crap, what a nut bag that woman is. Just wait, you will see.
I guess my only warning about this book is that there are some graphic scenes. Not sex, think grotesque. A friend of mine told me she also loved this book while I was reading it, but there was one scene in particular that she did not like. I’m pretty sure I know what scene that was, and in my brothers exact words, “it will be interesting how they pull that off in a movie” I like the gruesomeness though. I felt it pushed this above some of the other post apocalyptic books I’ve read. It’s gritty and it’s real. I’m curious to learn more of the back story though. Why everything has come to be the way it is. Hopefully some of my questions will be answered in the following book.

I can’t wait!! If you enjoy the apocalypse stories and your not afraid of some gore, definitely check this one out. :)

  1. Yay! I don't think I know anyone who's read this and DIDN'T love it. Love this: "Raffe doesn’t have to scare mine off, I will take them off willingly." Same here, girl, same here! :D I know you're probably not actively looking for any new reads, but I just read Sanctum which is also from Amazon Children's and it blew me away in the same way that Angelfall did. Plus, it's only $3.99 for Kindle right now. :)

  3. Oh yay! Gosh, I won this paperback in a giveaway and I still haven't read it AND AND it was free for kindle one day plus the audiobook was free so I grabbed both so I have it in three formats and I haven't read it yet. Um, Asheley fail. I've heard from everybody in the world too that this book is amazing and I've been meaning to read it. The fact that you don't really love angel books and you still like it is quite telling and I think it makes me a little more excited to read it. I tend to like angel books and heaven/hell stuff and all of that plus I like the raw, apocalyptic stuff too. Man, I feel like you and me both are kind talking me into this book right now.
